On short cycle enumeration in biregular bipartite graphs

چکیده
ABSTRACT. A number of recent works have used a variety of combinatorial constructions to derive Tanner graphs for LDPC codes and some of these have been shown to perform well in terms of their probability of error curves and error floors. Such graphs are bipartite and many of these constructions yield biregular graphs where the degree of left vertices is a constant c+1 and that of the right vertices is a constant d+1. Such graphs are termed (c+ 1, d + 1) biregular bipartite graphs here. One property of interest in such work is the girth of the graph and the number of short cycles in the graph, cycles of length either the girth or slightly larger. Such numbers have been shown to be related to the error floor of the probability of error curve of the related LDPC code. Using known results of graph theory, it is shown how the girth and the number of cycles of length equal to the girth may be computed for these (c + 1, d + 1) biregular bipartite graphs knowing only the parameters c and d and the numbers of left and right vertices. While numerous algorithms to determine the number of short cycles in arbitrary graphs exist, the reduction of the problem from an algorithm to a computation for these biregular bipartite graphs is of interest.

Matchings in Random Biregular Bipartite Graphs
We study the existence of perfect matchings in suitably chosen induced subgraphs of random biregular bipartite graphs. We prove a result similar to a classical theorem of Erdős and Rényi about perfect matchings in random bipartite graphs. We also present an application to commutative graphs, a class of graphs that are featured in additive number theory.
متن کاملThe Spectral Excess Theorem for Distance-Biregular Graphs
The spectral excess theorem for distance-regular graphs states that a regular (connected) graph is distance-regular if and only if its spectral-excess equals its average excess. A bipartite graph Γ is distance-biregular when it is distance-regular around each vertex and the intersection array only depends on the stable set such a vertex belongs to. In this note we derive a new version of the sp...
متن کاملOn Interval Edge Colorings of Biregular Bipartite Graphs With Small Vertex Degrees
A proper edge coloring of a graph with colors 1, 2, 3, . . . is called an interval coloring if the colors on the edges incident to each vertex form an interval of integers. A bipartite graph is (a, b)-biregular if every vertex in one part has degree a and every vertex in the other part has degree b. It has been conjectured that all such graphs have interval colorings. We prove that all (3, 6)-b...
متن کاملEnumeration of Bipartite Graphs and Bipartite Blocks
We use the theory of combinatorial species to count unlabeled bipartite graphs and bipartite blocks (nonseparable or 2-connected graphs). We start with bicolored graphs, which are bipartite graphs that are properly colored in two colors. The two-element group S2 acts on these graphs by switching the colors, and connected bipartite graphs are orbits of connected bicolored graphs under this actio...
متن کاملMixed cycle-E-super magic decomposition of complete bipartite graphs
An H-magic labeling in a H-decomposable graph G is a bijection f : V (G) ∪ E(G) → {1, 2, ..., p + q} such that for every copy H in the decomposition, ΣνεV(H) f(v) + ΣeεE(H) f(e) is constant. f is said to be H-E-super magic if f(E(G)) = {1, 2, · · · , q}. A family of subgraphs H1,H2, · · · ,Hh of G is a mixed cycle-decomposition of G if every subgraph Hi is isomorphic to some cycle Ck, for k ≥ ...
